Avola lies between the sea and the Hyblaean Mountains. Soon after the last houses of Avola end, the terrain begins to rise. Only 5 km from the coast, you’re already 300 meters above the sea level.

The Hyblaean Mountains are mainly composed of white limestone rocks. Rivers have cut themselves deep into this natural high plateau. Because of this, the gentle slopes are interrupted by many sharp valleys and small lakes. This “Karst”-Topography is of breathtaking beauty.

The vineyards of Avola lie at the feet of these mountains. The south-east inclination towards the seaside, the limestone rich soil and the fresh water from the mountains are key factors contributing to the potential for growing world class wines in Avola.
